Interior Design Trends to Prepare Your Home for Summer

The home is where the heart is, so it only makes sense to design your home with an attractive, cohesive interior. Doing so create a more enjoyable and relaxing environment that you can call home. And with summer right around the corner, there's no better time than now to give your home's interior a makeover.

Natural Light

Take advantage of natural light to illuminate your home's interior and lift the atmospheric mood. According to a survey conducted by Origin Global, one than one-quarter of respondents say natural lighting is the single most important element for a family living space. In addition to enhancing your home's decor, natural light will also lower your monthly utility bills. Rather than using overhead lighting, for instance, you can pull back the curtains and open the blinds. As sunlight beams through the windows, it will illuminate your home and enhance the decor.

Greenery

Named Color of the Year for 2017 by Patone, greenery is the perfect color with which to brighten your home. Featuring a light green with a yellow tint, it reflects the emerging life and revival of winter's end. Whether you use it a base color for your living room or secondary color in your home's furnishings, including greenery in your home is guaranteed to improve its aesthetics. If you're not willing to commit to a new color, visit a local home improvement store to pick up some paint switches of greenery and other colors. You can then place them against the walls of various rooms to see how they affect the decor.

New Shower

The master bathroom is a key selling point of your home, and for good reason. Statistics show that the average person spends one year of his or her life in the bathroom. You can give your master bathroom a makeover by installing a new shower. Glass doors look amazing when used added to a new shower. And if you want to make your home more efficient, you can install a low-flow shower head. Federal laws require all shower heads labeled as "low flow" to consume no more than 2 gallons of water per minute, compared to 8 gallons with a traditional shower head.

Living Room Throw Pillows

A quick and easy way to update your living room is to add throw pillows. Available at most home decor stores for as little as $5 a piece, throw pillows allow you to incorporate new colors, designs and styles into your living room's design. If you want to brighten up your living room, you can add some red throw pillows to the sofa. The great thing about throw pillows is that they provide functional as well as aesthetic benefits. When you or your family is lounging in the living room, throw pillows offer a comfortable place on which to rest your head.

Decorative Houseplants

Finally, decorative houseplants are always an excellent addition to your home's interior, especially during this time of year. Houseplants offer a unique style that's not achieved through traditional furnishings and decorations. Adding just a few container plants to your foyer or living room will have a positive impact on the decor. Furthermore, plants promote cleaner indoor air by filtering germs, dust and debris from the surrounding environment. The only downside is that you'll have to provide them sunlight and water, but that pales in comparison to the benefits they offer to your home's decor.

These interior design trends will prepare your home for the upcoming summer season. Just remember to stick with a cohesive theme throughout your home's decor. If you decorate one room with black, for example, don't include brown furnishings or decorations.
